Manchester United have reportedly made contact with the representatives of AS Monaco defender and reported transfer target Axel Disasi.

The Red Devils have been linked with a move for the Frenchman previously and now look to have made some behind-the-scenes steps towards landing a deal for the player during the upcoming summer transfer window.

In this quiz, we will take a look at who topped the club's scoring charts and when. First, who was United's top scorer this season?

According to a recent report from Foot Mercato (via Sport Witness) United are interested in signing Disasi this summer and made contact with his entourage two weeks ago.

The report also adds that Erik ten Hag wants to strengthen his defence in summer and Disasi, who could cost United €50m (£43m) to sign, is seen as an ideal candidate.

After making 89 appearances for Stade Reims across their senior and youth sides, the defender joined Monaco back in the 2020 summer transfer window.

Since then, the 25-year-old has made 119 appearances for his current side across all competitions, scoring 11 goals and delivering four assists in the process.

Having played more minutes than any other outfield Monaco player in Ligue 1 this season, this highlights how important he is for the club.

Across his 28 league appearances, the centre-back has made more blocks (40), interceptions (45) and clearances (86) than any other player at the club as well as winning more aerial duels (71) than any of his teammates.

Do Man United need to strengthen their defence this summer?

Yes

Yes

No

No

This makes it easy to see why Ten Hag has apparently identified Disasi, who has been described as a “dominant” player who was “born to play in England” by talent scout Jacek Kulig, as someone who could strengthen his defence.

Also, with a recent report claiming that the Dutchman is willing to see Harry Maguire and Victor Lindelof leave the club in the summer, bringing in the Monaco star could be an ideal replacement for either of those players.

Moving forward, one the summer transfer window opens, we feel that United should do all they can to land the Frenchman’s signature, regardless of whoever ends up leaving.
