Pundit Frank McAvennie has claimed that Liverpool and Jurgen Klopp should not focus on bringing in a new goalkeeper during the upcoming summer transfer window.

Last month, Klopp revealed that the Merseyside club will look to make “many changes” during the summer transfer period.

Then in an report for The Athletic written by James Pearce, the journalist revealed that the Reds could look to bring a new goalkeeper with current shot-stopper Adrian out of contract in the summer and Caoimhin Kelleher expected to attract outside interest.

How well do you know these Liverpool squad numbers? Starting off with an easy one: Mo Salah

Speaking to Football Insider, McAvennie had this to say on the prospect of Liverpool aiming to sign a new goalkeeper and how that could impact Alisson Becker.

He said: “I think it is way down the list. Alisson has made a couple of mistakes, we heard the same about [David] De Gea and look at him now.

“Alisson is one of the best ‘keepers in the world. How are you going to replace that? Yes he is going to make mistakes, everyone does but on his day he is still the best ‘keeper in the world.

“You are not going to replace that, why would you want to replace that? Why spend a lot of money when you need it somewhere else?

“I do not think Jurgen will be worrying about a goalkeeper, I think that will be the least of his worries.”

This season has seen the Brazilian face 98 shots on target across the 23 Premier League appearances he’s made, saving 71 of them, leaving him with the seventh-highest save percentage in the division (73.5%).

Has Alisson been Liverpool's best player this season?

Pearce also highlighted the 30-year-old’s efforts for Klopp’s side this term by describing his performances as “immense” after helping his side beat Newcastle United 2-0 earlier this month.

With his contract not set to expire until the summer of 2027, it doesn’t seem likely that Alisson will be going anywhere anytime soon.

However, should Adrian and Kelleher both find themselves leaving Anfield in the summer, the Reds will undoubtedly have to bring in a new shot-stopper to fill that potential void.

In regards to whether or not they would look to sign someone who may not only be a potential deputy to Alisson but act as real competition for the number one spot, this is something that the recruitment and coaching staff will have to consider.
