Pundit Alan Hutton has shared his thoughts about the upcoming summer transfer window and the possibility of FSG allowing Liverpool to spend a significant amount of money in it.

Back in January, former Reds defender Jamie Carragher suggested that the Merseyside club needs to be active in the upcoming transfer window so Jurgen Klopp can refresh his squad.

With the Anfield outfit now firmly in the hunt to finish this season in the top four, another pundit has shared his thoughts on what the summer transfer period could look like for Liverpool.

How well do you know these Liverpool squad numbers? Starting off with an easy one: Mo Salah

Speaking to Football Insider, Hutton said this when asked if FSG would be willing to back Klopp during the upcoming window amid recent claims that an overhaul could be in store this summer.

He said: “I think as a fan you would really hope so. It is there for all to see. I think everybody knows that they are going to have to spend big.

“We are talking £250m-plus that they are going to have to put into the squad. It is a large sum of money. Whether they are willing to do that in one hit, we will have to wait and see, but I think it needs it.”

The club have spent significant amounts of money on new players recently such as Darwin Nunez, Cody Gakpo and Luis Diaz among others, but don’t often bring in a lot of players for considerable amounts in one transfer window.

Do you think Liverpool will spend a lot of money this summer?

No

Looking ahead to this next window, one figure the Reds have been linked with who would likely cost them a hefty fee is Jude Bellingham, with Borussia Dortmund apparently wanting around €150m (£132m) for his services.

Bearing in mind how Liverpool have the likes of the exit-bound Roberto Firmino, James Milner, Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Adrian out of contract this summer, seeing these players leave could mean that the club will look to replace them in the coming months.

This could lead to a significant overhaul of the squad taking place in the summer, which would surely mean that FSG will have to empty their pockets if they want Klopp to have a squad that is capable of going after every trophy available.

Therefore, Hutton’s view on Liverpool’s upcoming windows appears to make sense.
