Pundit Frank McAvennie has claimed that Liverpool should look to sell Fabinho as part of their proposed midfield overhaul during the upcoming summer transfer window.

After Jamie Carragher said earlier in the season that the Merseyside club need to refresh the midfield in Jurgen Klopp’s squad, it has since been reported that the Reds are looking to bring in three new midfielders this summer.

Now, one pundit has shared their thoughts on this potential flurry of business and how it could impact the current midfield players at the club.

How well do you know these Liverpool squad numbers? Starting off with an easy one: Mo Salah

Speaking to Football Insider, McAvennie had this to say about Liverpool’s midfield and whether potential incomings could facilitate an Anfield exit for Fabinho.

He said: “It depends who comes in. [Jordan] Henderson is not getting any younger, neither is Fabinho. They miss Thiago [Alcantara], he is a wonderful talent and is a better player than Henderson.

“Henderson has done a wonderful job and he will still continue to do that job but he can’t play all the time. I do not know if they will keep Fabinho or if they will try and get money for him. I would try and sell him. I think the midfield needs shaken up.”

The 29-year-old, who still has over three years left on his current contract, has featured in all but three of Liverpool’s matches this season across all competitions, highlighting how important he is to Klopp.

Across his 24 Premier League appearances, the Brazilian has racked up the second-highest passing accuracy percentage (88.1%) at Liverpool out of players that have made more than one pass in the campaign.

In addition to that, the £180k-per-week midfielder also has the second-highest combined total of tackles and interceptions (64) and the joint-second highest number of recoveries (115).

With a recent report from The Athletic highlighting the Brazil international’s shaky form at times this season, Fabinho has shown how important he can be for Klopp’s side, which is why we think there should be no thoughts about selling him this summer, regardless of any potential new midfield arrivals.
