Liverpool are reportedly in pole position to secure a summer transfer deal for Chelsea midfielder Mason Mount.

The Merseyside club have been heavily linked with a summer transfer move for Jude Bellingham, although it has now been reported that the Reds are in the driving seat to secure a move for another English midfielder.

According to a recent report from Football Insider, Chelsea will look to sell Mount this summer if they can’t get him to sign a new deal, with his current one set to expire in 2024.

The report also adds that Liverpool are currently at the front of the queue to land a deal for the midfielder, with the Reds believing a fee of around £50m would be enough to take him out of Stamford Bridge after having discussions via third parties.

With 192 senior appearances for Chelsea under his belt, the 24-year-old has scored 33 goals and delivered 37 assists in the process, highlighting how much of an attacking threat he carries from midfield.

In fact, one of those 37 assists came in the 2021 Champions League final where Chelsea beat Manchester City thanks to a single goal from Kai Havertz that Mount set up.

As well as that, the England international, who has been hailed as ‘world-class’, has shown how much of a versatile figure he is by playing across numerous midfield and attacking positions throughout his career.

Would £50m be fair price for Liverpool to pay for Mason Mount?

Taking into account how current Liverpool player Roberto Firmino has revealed he’ll be leaving Anfield in the summer, in addition to the fact that the Reds have James Milner, Naby Keita and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain out of contract at the end of the season, should either of those three players also follow Firmino out of the club, bringing in Mount would be a smart move.

Bearing in mind how the Merseyside club have a track record of signing players from fellow Premier League clubs that have gone on to be successful at the club such as Sadio Mane, Virgil van Dijk, Georginio Wijnaldum and Andy Robertson, adding the Chelsea star to that list could be what the Reds need to start winning trophies again.
