Liverpool’s reported transfer target, Mason Mount, is reportedly open to joining the Merseyside club during the upcoming summer transfer window.
As things stand, the midfielder’s contract at Stamford Bridge is set to expire in the summer of 2024.
However, reports have claimed that the west London club are looking to offer Mount a new deal, although talks have stalled in recent weeks.
This has since led to links emerging between the 24-year-old and Jurgen Klopp’s side, who have been touted to bring in some new midfielder this summer.
Looking ahead to the next transfer period, some behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding the player and his stance towards a potential move to Anfield.
According to a recent report from Football Insider, Mount is keen on joining Liverpool in the summer, as current contract talks with Chelsea have hit a difficult point.
The report also adds that Klopp is a big admirer of the Chelsea star, who would relish the chance to play under the Liverpool boss.
With 192 senior appearances for the Blues under his belt, Mount has scored 33 goals and delivered 37 assists in the process.
Should Liverpool make a move to sign Mason Mount this summer?
The England international has shown how much of an impact he can have in big occasions as he provided the assist for Kai Havertz’s winner against Manchester City in the 2021 Champions League final with an assist that was described as “phenomenal” by journalist Paul Brown.
Having also played across numerous midfield and attacking positions throughout his career, this could be why Klopp is a big fan of the Englishman, especially since he has a significant number of players in his squad that are capable of playing in several positions across the pitch.
With all of that in mind, and the fact that Liverpool have the likes of Naby Keita, James Milner and Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain out of contract in the summer, we feel that the club should definitely make an approach to Chelsea once the season ends to see if they would be willing to sell Mount.
