Liverpool are reportedly interested in signing Leicester City midfielder James Maddison during the upcoming summer transfer window.

After Jamie Carragher claimed that the Merseyside club needs to bring in some new midfielders this summer, the Reds have been linked with the likes of Jude Bellingham, Mason Mount and Youri Tielemans.

Now though, a fresh report has claimed that the Anfield outfit have their eyes on another midfield figure.

According to a recent report from Football Insider, Liverpool are monitoring Maddison’s situation and are expected to be in the mix for his signature this summer if he does not sign a new Leicester deal.

As things stand, the Englishman is set to enter the final year of his contract at Leicester in the summer, meaning that unless he signs a new deal, the next transfer period could be the ideal time for the Foxes to cash in on him.

During his time at Leicester, the 26-year-old, who Pep Guardiola called an “incredible” player, has scored 54 goals and provided 37 assists in 191 appearances across all competitions.

This season has seen Maddison score nine goals and supply five assists in 18 league appearances, earning himself an overall performance rating of 7.29/10 from WhoScored, leaving only 10 other players in the division with higher ratings.

Would you take James Maddison at Liverpool?

In addition to that, the England international has the joint-eight highest average of shots per game (2.9) in the league and the fifth-highest for key passes per game (2.3).

With clear attacking talent and an ability to be a goal threat from midfield, it’s easy to see why Liverpool have got their eyes on him.

In terms of the upcoming summer window, should the Reds find themselves waving goodbye to Naby Keita, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and James Milner, who all have contracts expiring at the end of the season, launching a move for Maddison would be a great way for Jurgen Klopp to refresh his midfield alongside any other targets they end up signing.
