Chelsea have their eyes on Napoli winger Hirving Lozano ahead of the upcoming summer transfer window, according to journalist Raffaele Auriemma.

The previous winter and summer transfer windows have seen Chelsea spend significant amounts of money to bring many new players to the west London club.

Even though the next summer window is some months away from opening, one journalist has revealed the identity of a player the Stamford Bridge outfit have their eyes on.

Speaking to Radio Crc, as relayed by Mondo Napoli (via Sport Witness), Auriemma said that Chelsea like Lozano and Graham Potter likes the sort of winger he is.

The journalist then added that a fee of €50m (£44m) could be enough to land the Mexican’s signature.

After scoring 40 goals and providing 23 assists in 79 appearances for PSV Eindhoven, the 27-year-old joined Napoli during the 2019 summer transfer window.

Since then, the Mexico international, who has been described as a “sensation” in the past by journalist Bolarinwa Olajide, has found the net 30 times and supplied 17 assists in 144 appearances across all competitions.

This season has seen the attacker score three goals and deliver three assists in 30 appearances across 24 Serie A appearances.

In those appearances, the winger has racked up more crosses into the penalty area (16) than any other Napoli player as well as having the second-highest total of progressive carries (68) and successful take-ons (30).

Would you like to see Chelsea sign Hirving Lozano?

No

To give a further insight into what sort of player he is and what Potter apparently likes about him, WhoScored claims Lozano’s strengths include his dribbling and crossing, which can be seen by his statistics this season.

In addition to that, it also claims his style of play involves playing short passes, cutting inside and being an indirect set-piece threat.

Given Chelsea have only six set-piece goals all season (the joint-fourth-lowest tally in the division; Spurs have the most with 12), you can see what he could potentially add to the team.

With all of that in mind, it’s easy to see why Chelsea and their manager have the Napoli winger on their radar.

However, if they are considering making a move for him in the summer, the club may well have to get rid of some of their current wide players given the depth they have in that area of the squad.
