Chelsea have set their sights on appointing Brighton boss Roberto di Zerbi as a potential replacement for under-pressure Graham Potter, according to a recent report from Football Insider.

It’s fair to say that Chelsea haven’t endured the best of seasons, and any hope that Graham Potter could be the ideal manager to take the club forward in the long-term seem to have been quickly diminished by large sections of the Stamford Bridge faithful.

Potter took charge of the Blues back in September 2022, and his arrival was met with a considerable amount of praise and excitement, with the 47-year-old catching the eye with Brighton & Hove Albion earlier in his career, which prompted a move to Chelsea, where there were high hopes that he could take the club back to their glory days, which might feel a distant memory to the Chelsea supporters nowadays.

However, for one reason or another, Potter’s time in charge of the club hasn’t hit those heights just yet, and there is a danger that his time with the London-based team could reach an early conclusion if positive results are to continue to be a struggle. Chelsea are floating in mid-table heading into the final few months of the 2022/23 season in the Premier League, and that has come as a huge frustration for the supporters, especially since they’ve dropped points against the likes of Southampton, Fulham, and Nottingham Forest in recent months, which doesn’t make for encouraging reading at all.

According to experts at My Betting Sites, Chelsea are priced at a sizeable 200/1 on Paddy Power to finish in the top-four in the Premier League this season. Below, you’ll find the other odds for the same betting market with other betting sites.

Even though it’s been reported that Chelsea are sticking with Potter for the time being, some other media outlets have revealed that the club are eyeing moves for potential successors heading towards the summer. Football Insider are the latest source to claim that Chelsea have set their sights on Brighton & Hove Albion manager Roberto de Zerbi, as they’ve reportedly been impressed with what they’ve seen from the Italian boss, who has been nothing short of brilliant with the Seagulls so far this season.

Chelsea aren’t the only club that are planning a move for de Zerbi though, with Tottenham Hotspur also being linked with a move for the 43-year-old, who had previously managed Ukrainian side Shakhtar Donetsk. An interesting summer awaits at Stamford Bridge, and if the club are to make the bold call in moving on from Potter, then they’ll have to make sure that they get this next appointment right, otherwise, they run the risk of mid-table obscurity for seasons to come, which is far from ideal.

De Zerbi could be the right manager for them as well, as we’ve seen the talent that he has in working with younger players, with Brighton & Hove Albion catching the eye for all the right reasons of late, and he could prove to be the ideal replacement for Potter, although only time will tell as to whether the Blues will part company with him anytime soon.
