Chelsea are plotting a summer transfer window move for Everton midfielder Amadou Onana.

What’s the latest on Onana to Chelsea?

According to reports in Spain, the west London outfit are set to be rivalled by league rivals Arsenal in an intense race to sign this coveted engine room talent.

Onana was only signed by Everton in August 2022 for £33m on a contract until 2027, but if the Merseyside outfit are relegated they could be forced to sell one of their prize assets to help with their financial difficulties.

Who could Onana link up with at Chelsea?

The Belgian has emerged as one of Everton’s most effective and instrumental players in their desperate fight to avoid the drop.

Capped five times at international leave, Onana has averaged 2.3 tackles, 1.1 clearances, and 1 interception per 90 across 26 league appearances, as per Sofascore. Furthermore, the midfield prodigy also ranks in the top 7% among his positional peers for aerial wons to underline that he is a dominant and commanding presence in the midfield.

Former Everton manager Frank Lampard described the former Lille player as an “all-rounder” to ramp up his growing and impressive reputation.

Given this praise and his obvious qualities, the £38m-rated engine could be the perfect midfield partnership for Chelsea’s new boy, Enzo Fernandez.

The Blues recently broke the British transfer record for the 2022 World Cup winner, who has made a solid start to life in England through his excellent range of passing and close control.

Therefore, the technique of the Argentine, coupled with Onana’s magnificent physicality could be a formidable midfield partnership.

With the departures of Mateo Kovacic and Denis Zakaria seemingly looming, a deal to finalise the Onana transfer could be the replacement for these two.

However, with Arsenal also interested and being able to offer Champions League football next season, it will certainly be a hotly contested race for this gem in the summer.

The 6 foot 4 man mountain has already demonstrated that he is perhaps too accomplished for Everton and there is beginning to be a growing acceptance that the player could depart.
