Arsenal are reportedly weighing up a potential transfer move to sign Lazio midfielder Sergej Milinkovic-Savic during the upcoming summer window.

The north London club have been linked with the midfielder, who is set to enter the final year of his contract at Lazio, previously, most recently during the last January transfer window.

Now that the summer transfer window is approaching, some behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding the Serbian’s current stance at the Italian club and Arsenal’s interest in him.

According to a recent report from Tuttomercatoweb (via Sport Witness), Arsenal are interested in signing Milinkovic-Savic and could soon make a move for him as the midfielder has yet to decide whether he wants to extend his deal at Lazio or not.

Having joined Lazio from KRC Genk during the 2015 summer transfer window, the 28-year-old has gone on to make 326 appearances for his current side across all competitions.

During that time, he has found the net 64 times and delivered 59 assists, highlighting how much of an attacking threat he can be from midfield.

This season has seen the Serbia international, who has previously been described by his father as having “extraordinary technique and physicality”, score four goals and deliver eight assists in 23 Serie A appearances.

To further highlight how effective he is for the Italian side, the midfielder has made more key passes (34), passes into the penalty area (32), goal-creating actions (11) and aerial duels won (64) than any other Lazio player, as well as having the joint-highest combined total of tackles and interceptions at the club (64).

His overall performances have earned him a strong season rating of 7.31/10 from WhoScored, making him the joint-third highest rated player in Serie A alongside Paulo Dybala.

Bearing in mind how Arsenal currently have three midfielders in their squad that will be entering the final year of their contracts this summer, securing a deal for Milinkovic-Savic could be an ideal way for the Gunners to have an ideal replacement should one of those three midfielders end up leaving the club in the near future.
