Arsenal are reportedly among a number of clubs pushing to sign Eintracht Frankfurt midfielder Jesper Lindstrom.

What’s the latest on Arsenal’s interest in Lindstrom?

As per journalist Patrick Berger’s tweet, the Gunners have joined three other British clubs on the hunt for the 23-year-old’s signature. The price tag has reportedly been set at €30m (£26m) by Frankfurt.

Lindstrom is contracted at the German club until summer of 2026. As a result of this contract, the Eagles will be in no rush to sell unless a suitable bid is offered.

How would Lindstrom signing affect the Arsenal team?

The £19k-per-week player would join an Arsenal attack that has quality but not a huge abundance of depth – particularly on the right-hand side, where Bukayo Saka has consistently operated this season.

The Dane may be viewed as an alternative to Saka or cover for the Englishman, but his versatility means that he can play across the midfield. According to Transfermarkt, he can play in attacking midfield, as a second striker or on the left wing.

This versatility means that Lindstrom could provide cover for all of the Arsenal attack – bar the main striker.

Via FBref, the €28m-rated (£25m) midfielder’s statistics do not compare to Saka’s, but this is because he is a different sort of player. The Englishman is much more likely to receive the ball from a progressive pass and is much more likely to complete more carries per 90 minutes than Lindstrom.

However, the former Bronby IF ace operates between the lines more often than he isolates a fullback and runs at them. The stylistic differences between their pair’s play is what could turn Saka into an even better player and help push Mikel Arteta’s league-leading side even further.

Having two quality players in each position gives depth to the squad – particularly when they are of different skill sets. The Denmark international, described as a “huge talent” by teammate Kevin Trapp, has abilities to his game which Saka could learn from and improve in his own right.

If Lindstrom is signed, the added competition alone should inspire the Englishman to continue to fight for his position. It would be a deal that would keep to sporting director Edu’s philosophy and further the team as a whole.

The Gunners may be facing competition from other Premier League sides, but having a player to rival Saka’s starting position would be crucial in furthering the success of the team.
