Fabrizio Romano has dropped an update regarding Tottenham Hotspur full-back Djed Spence and his future with the north London club.
After making just six appearances for the Lilywhites across all competitions this season, the 22-year-old joined Stade Rennes on loan during the recent January transfer window until the end of the season.
Since then, the defender played 84 minutes in his first appearance for the French club in their recent 3-1 defeat to Lille.
With Spence now in France, some behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding his move to Rennes and what the future could look like for him.
In a recent Twitter post, Romano had this to say about Spence and his future.
He said: “Djed Spence decided to join Rennes on straight loan as he’s convinced of his future at Tottenham, with good game time in France.
“Proposals with a buy option included were not considered by club and player side.”
Taking into account the lack of game time the Englishman had at Spurs throughout the first half of the season, it’s understandable why they moved him out on loan last month.
His first performance for the Ligue 1 side saw Spence make three tackles and win seven of the 11 duels he was involved him, ultimately earning him an overall rating of 6.9/10 from SofaScore, making him the third-highest rated Rennes player on the day.

The right-back also showed his defensive talent during his loan spell with Nottingham Forest in the Championship before joining Tottenham as he ended their promotion-winning campaign with the fifth-highest combined total of tackles and interceptions (117) at the club.
