Newcastle United have been handed some hope in their chances of landing a summer transfer deal for Bayer Leverkusen winger Moussa Diaby.

The Tyneside club were linked with a move for the Frenchman during the previous summer transfer window and were even reportedly weighing up a bid for him.

However, having not been able to land a deal for the 23-year-old last time, it has been claimed that the next summer transfer period could be the ideal time for Newcastle to launch a move for Diaby.

According to a recent report from BILD, the next summer transfer window could see numerous Leverkusen players make moves out of the club, with sporting director Simon Rolfes revealing that it would be due to the contract terms of some of their current squad figures.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

The report then mentioned that Diaby could be one of the players sold in the summer, with Newcastle and fellow Premier League side Arsenal keeping an eye on him.

With 150 appearances for the German club to his name, the winger has scored 43 goals and provided 42 assists across all competitions.

This season has seen the France international show how much of a dynamic goal threat he can be by scoring eight goals and delivering five assists in 26 appearances whilst playing across a range of different attacking positions.

In addition to having the fourth-highest number of shots on target in the Bundesliga (23), Diaby also has the highest average of key passes per game at Leverkusen (1.9).

This backs up why he has previously been lauded as a “dangerous” player by Nils Petersen and why we feel he would be a very exciting signing for Newcastle to make in the summer.

In terms of a potential move to St. James’ Park, the fact that some questions have been raised over Allan Saint-Maximin’s future with the Magpies could make Diaby a potential replacement for his fellow countryman if he does end up leaving the club.
