Newcastle United have seen a significant number of players make the move to Tyneside over recent years, but not all of them have paid off their transfer fees.

One player that falls into this category who we feel has not been a successful signing for the Magpies is Jamal Lewis.

Signed from Norwich City back in September 2020 in a deal worth £15m, the left-back has made just 35 appearances for the Toon across all competitions.

With numerous injuries impacting his playing time, the defender has only played seven minutes of Premier League action this season, proving that he is not particularly high in Eddie Howe’s pecking order.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

Looking ahead to the next summer transfer window, should the Newcastle boss look to move Lewis out of the club, one player they have been recently linked with who could be brought in as a suitable replacement is Fulham left-back Antonee Robinson.

Having joined Fulham for £2m not long before Lewis signed for Newcastle, Robinson has gone on to make 91 appearances for the west London club across all competitions, prior to their home match against Wolves on Friday night, chipping in with three goals and four assists along the way.

This season has seen the full-back show how capable he is in terms of going forward and his defensive work as well.

Should Newcastle get rid of Jamal Lewis this summer?

Yes

No

No

Specifically, with more passes (26) and crosses (15) into the penalty area than any other Fulham player, the USA international has also made more blocks (35) than any of his teammates as well as having the fourth-highest combined total of tackles and interceptions (59) at the club.

Hailed for his “magnificent” performances on the international stage by presenter Luis Miguel Echegaray, the Fulham star would almost certainly have more to offer Howe’s side than Lewis, who has barely had a look-in this season.

Moving forward, should Lewis find himself looking for a new club in the summer and Newcastle feel like continuing their track record of signing players from English clubs, launching a move for Robinson could be the best way for them to do both.
