Newcastle United are reportedly well-placed to land a summer transfer deal for Bristol City midfielder Alex Scott.

At the age of 19, the midfielder has made 80 senior appearances for his current side across all competitions prior to tonight’s FA Cup clash against Manchester City, scoring five goals and providing seven assists in the process.

With the youngster likely to show what he can do against Pep Guardiola’s side this evening, the player may well find himself playing against Premier League opposition on a regular basis next season.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

According to a recent report from Football Insider, Newcastle are the frontrunners to sign Scott in the summer, over the likes of Wolves, West Ham United and Crystal Palace.

The report also adds that Wolves moved for the midfielder in January but were unwilling to meet City’s £25m valuation.

This season has seen the Englishman feature in all but one of the Robins’ 33 Championship games, starting 32 of them, which highlights how important he is for the team.

Across those appearances, the midfielder has shown how much of an impressive and well-rounded player he is in an attacking and defensive sense.

For example, Scott tops City’s list for the number of key passes (32), shot-creating actions (66), successful tackles (42), blocks (43), successful take-ons (34), carries into the final third (45) and recoveries (181).

This makes it easy to see why the likes of Newcastle and several other top-flight clubs are looking to bring the teenager to the Premier League this summer.

Described by Nigel Pearson as an “exceptional” player, Scott has certainly showed he has the talent to take the next step up in his career and play in the top flight of English football and that he would be an exciting player for Newcastle to have in their squad.

Looking ahead to the summer, we feel that securing a deal for the City star should definitely be something that the Toon look to complete ahead of their Premier League colleagues.
