Manchester United have been named in the race to land a summer transfer deal for Napoli striker Victor Osimhen.
The Red Devils have been mentioned with a move for the Nigerian in the past, with Sky Sports journalist Florian Plettenberg revealing in August that United see Osimhen as a transfer target.
With the next summer transfer window on the way, some fresh details have emerged regarding the striker and the interest in him.
Speaking to the media (via Napoli Piu) journalist Ciro Venerato had this to say about Osimhen potentially leaving his current club in the summer.
He said: “In these hours there is a lot of talk about the possibility of [Dusan] Vlahovic going to replace Osimhen at the end of the season. But I can say that the rumours have been absolutely denied.
“I confirm, however, that the Nigerian likes Chelsea and Manchester United. But also beware of [Christophe] Galtier’s PSG who already had the player at the time of Lille.”
Since arriving at Napoli back in September 2020, the 24-year-old has scored 49 goals in 87 appearances across all competitions.
19 of those goals have come across his 20 Serie A appearances this season, highlighting how much of a deadly and prolific goalscorer he is.
Should Manchester United sign Victor Osimhen in the summer?
Yes
No
In fact, the striker, who has been described as “outrageous” by journalist Ryan Baldi, has found the net in all but two of his 15 previous league games for the current league leaders.
To further highlight how impressive the Nigeria international has been for his side this season, no other player in the division has had more shots at goal (87) and shots on target (35) than the Napoli star.
Bearing in mind how January recruit Wout Weghorst has failed to score a goal in six Premier League games for Erik ten Hag’s side, perhaps securing a deal for Osimhen could give United just what they need to become a deadlier attacking outfit.
Looking ahead to the summer transfer window, we feel that the Old Trafford outfit should do all they can to beat the likes of Chelsea and PSG to the Napoli striker’s signature and hope that he can bring his goalscoring talent to the Premier League.
