Pundit Frank McAvennie has claimed that reported Manchester United transfer target Jeremie Frimpong would be a breath of fresh air at Old Trafford.

Earlier this month, it was reported that the Red Devils are eyeing a summer transfer swoop for the Bayer Leverkusen right-back.

Having spent time in England with Manchester City in their youth ranks, the defender has been tipped to be a positive signing for Erik ten Hag’s side should he find himself back in England.

In this quiz, we will take a look at who topped the club's scoring charts and when. First, who was United's top scorer this season?

Speaking to Football Insider, McAvennie had this to say about Frimpong and a potential move to United.

He said: “Could he play for Man United? Of course he could. Frimpong would be like a breath of fresh air if he comes in. He is like a kid in a sweet shop. He is so enthusiastic, so fun. He would be good for Man United.

“I think he could play anywhere. Going to Germany and making it in a big club over there should not be taken lightly. There is nothing wrong with his defending abilities and going forward, but he is tiny. Football is such a big game now.”

After making 51 appearances for Celtic, during which he scored three goals and delivered eight assists, the Dutchman joined Leverkusen back in the 2021 January transfer window.

With 77 appearances under his belt for the German club, Frimpong has found the net seven times and supplied 16 assists, highlighting how much of a capable attacking figure he is.

This season has seen the former Celtic star score five goals and provide four assists in 22 Bundesliga appearances, earning himself an overall performance rating of 7.06/10 from WhoScored, making him the highest-rated player at Leverkusen.

In addition to that, the right-back also has the highest average of dribbles per game (2.4) at the club as well as the third-highest average for key passes per game (1.8).

This backs up why McAvennie thinks he would be an exciting and fun player for United to have in their squad, especially from an attacking point of view.
