Liverpool are reportedly one of the clubs interested in signing Torino defender Perr Schuurs during the summer transfer window.
According to Italian agent George Gardi, who worked as an intermediary to get Schuurs a move to the Serie A side, Liverpool were interested in signing the player before he joined Torino back in the summer.
Having made 22 appearances for the Italian club across all competitions this season, the 23-year-old has already found himself being linked with a move away from his new side.
According to a recent report from Tuttosport (via Sport Witness), Liverpool are one of the clubs interested in signing the centre-back and have been the first to make a move to land a deal for him in the summer.
The report also adds that Schuurs could end up costing the Merseyside club €50m (£44m) if he becomes the subject of a summer auction.
The Dutchman’s efforts in Serie A this season have seen him show how much of a capable defender he is and why he has the likes of Liverpool looking at him once again.
For example, with more clearances (50) to his name than any other Torino player, Schuurs also has the fourth-highest combined total of tackles and interceptions (44) at the club and the joint-second-highest total of recoveries (89).
Do Liverpool need to sign a centre-back in the summer?
Yes
No
In addition to that, the former Ajax figure is one of the six outfield players at the Italian club that has won more than 50% of their aerial duels (as per FBref).
And when comparing those numbers to Liverpool’s current defenders, he could yet have a pivotal role to play if he was able to replicate his Serie A form in England. For instance, only Virgil van Dijk has made more clearances (70), while his combined total of tackles and interceptions would be the best out of Reds centre-backs.
Hailed for his “dominant” performances in the past by journalist Josh Bunting, Schuurs, could definitely strengthen Jurgen Klopp’s side at the back, which is what they may need given how they’ve only been able to keep six clean sheets in the Premier League this season.
Moving forward, if bringing in new defenders ends up being a priority for Liverpool in the next summer transfer window, we feel that they should definitely see what it would take to sign the Torino star.
