Liverpool are reportedly looking to launch a summer transfer move for Inter Milan midfielder Nicolo Barella.

Reds manager Jurgen Klopp recently revealed that the club will do “many changes” during the upcoming summer transfer window in terms of moving players in and out of Anfield.

With that in mind, it seems as though the German has already identified his top target for the summer.

According to a recent report from Italian media outlet Calciomercato, Barella is at the top of Klopp’s list to strengthen his midfield this summer.

The report also adds that Inter’s price tag for the midfielder is between €70m-€75m (£61m-£66m).

Barella joined Inter on an initial loan deal from Cagliari back in the summer 2019 before signing on a permanent deal in September 2020.

With 166 appearances to his name for his current side, the 26-year-old has scored 17 goals and delivered 41 assists across all competitions.

This season has seen the midfielder feature in all but one of Inter’s 24 Serie A matches, finding the net on five occasions and providing six assists, highlighting how important he is for the club.

To further showcase how much of an impressive midfielder he is, Barella tops the list at Inter for the number of progressive passes (120), passes into the penalty area (34), successful take-ons (24) and progressive carries (52) made in the league this season.

Should Liverpool sign Nicolo Barella this summer?

Described as a “graceful” midfielder by journalist Josh Bunting, the £157k-per-week figure certainly has the talent to add an extra attacking dynamic to Klopp’s side from midfield, making it easy to see why he is reportedly keen to sign him this summer.

Bearing in mind how five clubs have made more progressive carries in the Premier League than Liverpool (436) this season, it’s easy to see why they would want a player like Barella in the team to help get the ball forward regularly.

Moving forward, while it’d be safe to assume that Inter would very much like to keep hold of their star midfielder, we feel that the Reds should definitely consider paying the reported price tag for Barella and getting him to Anfield.
