Liverpool journalist James Pearce has shared his praise for Reds goalkeeper Alisson Becker and his display during the Merseyside club’s recent 2-0 win over Newcastle United in the Premier League.
Jurgen Klopp’s side found themselves 2-0 up with 17 minutes on the clock thanks to goals from Darwin Nunez and Cody Gakpo.
With Magpies goalkeeper Nick Pope getting sent off halfway through the first period of the game, Liverpool managed to keep the 10 men of Newcastle at bay for the remainder of the game.
Once the match at St. James’ Park had ended, Pearce took to Twitter to share his praise for one Liverpool player, in particular, who played a big part in the win.
The journalist’s post contained a video of Klopp hugging Alisson on the pitch after the final whistle as they walked towards the tunnel.
In his caption, Pearce had this to say.
He said: “A celebratory hug/headlock for Alisson. Big saves at crucial times tonight. During a season when so many key players have struggled for consistency he’s been immense. #LFC.”
With the full 90 minutes under his belt against Newcastle, the £150k-per-week Liverpool shot-stopper made four saves in total, with one successful run-out and two high claims.

This display ultimately earned the Brazilian an impressive match rating of 8/10 from SofaScore, making him the second-highest rated Liverpool player on the day behind Trent Alexander-Arnold (8.3/10).
Taking all of this into account, it’s easy to see why Klopp was so happy with Alisson after the game on Saturday and why Pearce has shared his praise for him.
In terms of what the 30-year-old has done throughout the entire season for his side, out of the 98 shots on target he has faced in the league, 71 of them have been saved, leaving the goalkeeper with a save percentage of 73.5%, the seventh-highest in the division.
