Former Premier League player and current talkSPORT pundit Gabby Agbonlahor has shared his verdict on Leeds United’s decision to sack Jesse Marsch without having a replacement lined up.

Earlier this month, the Yorkshire club chose to part ways with Marsch after a disappointing run of results.

Since then, the club have kept Michael Skubala in temporary charge having seen the likes of Arne Slot and Androni Iraola reportedly turn down the chance to replace Marsch on a permanent basis.

With Leeds now in the relegation zone having lost 1-0 to fellow strugglers Everton on Saturday, one pundit has shared their thoughts on the situation behind-the-scenes at Elland Road.

Speaking to Football Insider, Agbonlahor had this to say about Marsch’s sacking and the condition that Leeds now find themselves in as a result.

He said: “I think they rushed the decision to sack him to be honest. If there was turmoil then I understand sacking Jesse Marsch, but he was unlucky.

“He was very unfortunate in a few games and there were a number of games where he didn’t get the results that the performance deserved.

“The board shouldn’t be sacking anyone without a guaranteed replacement lined up. They wouldn’t sack a centre-forward if they didn’t have a backup at the club.

“It was a very bizarre decision from Leeds and they could pay the price this season.”

With Marsch only winning four of the 20 league games he had in charge of the Whites this season, it’s easy to see why, from that point of view, the board took him out of his position.

However, their inability to find and hire a new permanent manager has been somewhat concerning, especially with the team now in the relegation zone.

Moving forward, with Marsch now out of the picture, the Leeds hierarchy need to be doing all they can to bring in a new head coach that can hit the ground running and guide the team out and away from the relegation zone.
