Everton are reportedly one of the clubs interested in signing Hoffenheim midfielder Dennis Geiger.

Since joining Hoffenheim’s youth squad back in 2009, the midfielder has worked his way through the ranks to eventually make his senior debut for the German club in August 2017.

With 194 appearances for the club across their senior and youth sides, the 24-year-old has scored 26 goals and delivered 44 assists along the way.

Having spent such a long time with his current club, the German could be set to finally leave Hoffenheim in the summer, with numerous clubs across Europe after him.

According to a recent report from Kicker, Everton, as well as Portuguese club Benfica and Hoffenheim’s fellow Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt, are interested in signing Geiger, who could be available as a free agent in the summer when his contract expires.

Do you remember who Alex Iwobi was signed from?

This season has seen the midfielder show how much of a well-rounded player he is in the middle of the pitch and what he’d be able to offer the Toffees.

Specifically, with the second-highest total of progressive passes (71) and key passes (27) at Hoffenheim, Geiger also has the fourth-highest combined total of tackles and interceptions (34), showing how effective he can be off the ball as well as on it.

To give a further insight into what sort of player he is, Geiger’s former manager, Julian Nagelsmann, had this to say about him:

“He’s comfortable on the ball and has the necessary aggression, and he’s not afraid of making tactical fouls either. He’s a really cool customer.”

Taking into account how Everton currently have the likes of Abdoulaye Doucoure and Tom Davies set to see their contracts expire at the end of the season, securing a deal for the Hoffenheim star could be an ideal way for the Merseyside club to potentially replace one of those current figures if they do end up leaving.
