Aston Villa’s owners will back Unai Emery in the next summer transfer window according to journalist John Townley.

The recent January transfer window saw the Villans secure deals for Alex Moreno and Jhon Duran and wave goodbye to Danny Ings and Frederic Guilbert.

With the winter window now closed, some behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding what the next transfer period could hold for the Midlands club.

In a recent Twitter post, Townley had this to say about Villa’s recent January window and shared a hint over what the summer could look like for them.

He said: “#AVFC were frustrated in their attempts to improve Unai Emery’s squad last month, but made the collective, sensible decision to hold fire until the summer. NSWE will back Emery heavily to continue building a team capable of challenging for Europe.”

For example, the fact that only six clubs have made fewer shot-creating actions in the league this season than Villa (389), who also have just four clubs below them for the total of key passes played (160), perhaps a playmaker that can set up goalscoring opportunities on a consistent basis should be a priority for the Villans.

Before the summer window opens, if Emery can end the season with his side as far up the table as possible, the potential lure of European football would surely make Villa a tempting prospect for potential new signings.
