Presenter Dan Bardell has shared his reaction to Aston Villa’s recent announcement that Tyrone Mings has signed a new deal.

The Midlands club announced today that Mings has put pen to paper on a new deal to keep him at Villa Park.

In a Twitter post on his official account in response to the announcement, Bardell had this to say.

He said: “Brilliant news, been unbelievable for this club in so many ways.

“Don’t like to dwell, but that the previous manager with no credit in the bank undermined him at the start of season could have forced him out- disgrace. #AVFC a better club with @TyroneMings part of it #UTV.”

Do you remember where Aston Villa made their signings from? Take our quiz to find out! First up, who did Frederic Guilbert turn out for immediately before moving to Villa Park?

Villa initially signed the defender on a loan deal from Bournemouth back in the 2019 January transfer window before becoming a permanent fixture at the club in the following summer period.

During his time at Villa Park, the 29-year-old has made 149 appearances across all competitions, chipping in with seven goals and nine assists along the way.

This season has seen the Englishman feature in all but three of Villa’s Premier League games and show how vital he is for the team on and off the ball.

Are you pleased Tyrone Mings has signed a new contract?

For example, in possession, Mings has one of the highest passing accuracy percentages (84%) at the club as well as having the second-highest total of passes into the final third of the pitch (58).

Then in terms of his defensive work off the ball, the centre-back has made more clearances (80) and interceptions (32) than any other Villa player in addition to having the third-highest number of recoveries (99) and aerial duels won (30) at the club.

Taking all of this into account, it’s understandable why the club have offered the defender a new contract and why Bardell is so pleased by the fact Mings has pledged his future to the Villans.

In regards to the presenter’s additional comment about Steven Gerrard’s decision to strip the defender of the captain’s armband back in August, it appears that Mings has had the last laugh on that front.
