Arsenal ended up having a particularly busy recent January transfer window in terms of the number of deals they were involved in.

One big story that they were in the midst of included seeing the Gunners try and secure a transfer deal for Brighton & Hove Albion midfielder Moises Caicedo.

After seeing two bids rejected by the Seagulls for the player, the second of which being £70m, Arsenal eventually gave up and signed Jorginho from Chelsea instead for a much lower fee on deadline day.

Despite being unsuccessful in their attempts to bring Caicedo to the Emirates last month, it has since been reported that the Gunners will look to sign him again in the summer.

However, another player that the club have been linked with previously that we feel would be an ideal and potentially cheaper alternative to the Brighton star is Wolves midfielder Ruben Neves.

Where did Arsenal sign these players from, let's start with an easy one! Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang

With 161 appearances to his name in the Premier League, the Portuguese international has much more top-flight experience under his belt than Caicedo, who has made just 26 appearances in the league.

In terms of being an ideal alternative to the Ecuadorian, the 25-year-old has shown this season what areas of his game he has been better at than Caicedo.

Who would you rather have at Arsenal?

For example, from an attacking point of view, Neves has racked up more shots on target than the 21-year-old (7 vs 4) as well as more passes into the final third of the pitch (114 vs 85) and more shot-creating actions (40 vs 38).

Then from a defensive standpoint, the Portugal midfielder has made more blocks (27 vs 18), interceptions (29 vs 26) and clearances (47 vs 17) than him.

Hailed for his “unreal” movement across the pitch in the past by journalist Tim Spiers, Neves could be a cheaper option for Mikel Arteta and Arsenal to go for in the summer as he’ll be entering the final year of his contract at Wolves at the end of the season.
