Writer and tactical analyst Adam Thornton has tipped Todd Cantwell to be a potential replacement for Rangers winger Ryan Kent.
TalkSport reporter Jim White reported that Michael Beale’s side are having ‘conversations’ with Norwich City for the player’s services.
Cantwell has played 18 times for the Canaries in the Championship this term but has yet to register a goal or assist so far this season.
The 24-year-old had two strong campaigns in the 2019/20 Premier League season as he provided eight goal contributions before an even more successful campaign in the Championship the following year, picking up 13 goals and assists combined.
Speaking to The Rangers Review, Thornton stated that Cantwell could be a ‘replacement’ for Ryan Kent amid the recent transfer rumours.
He stated: “Interesting to see how it goes, definitely for Cantwell, I could see him playing where Ryan Kent plays, so there’s a debate there – is that our replacement for Kent in the summer? Is it an insurance policy? Is it someone coming in to add a bit more depth? I’m not sure, but he definitely had talent, and then maybe the last year or so, hasn’t been great.
“I’m not sure he’s a fallen star or anything like that; I think he’d be able to get up to speed quite quickly, provided that we manage to get him over the line.”

We believe that Rangers need to prepare for the possibility that Ryan Kent could be leaving the club in the near future. His deal with the Scottish side expires at the end of May and losing him would be a massive blow.
The 26-year-old has nine goal contributions in the league for the Gers so far this season and his most prevalent campaign came when in the 2020/21 Scottish Premiership campaign where he picked up 10 goals and 11 assists. When on song, it is clear he can be vital.
Cantwell, who has been hailed as ‘incredible’, would arguably be a fitting replacement for Kent should he leave Ibrox as he’s experienced playing in the top two divisions in England. At only 24 years old, he could be one for the future, while Rangers could develop his game for a few years and then sell him on for a hefty fee to reinvest into the squad if was to go from strength to strength in Glasgow.
