Daily Record journalist Gavin Berry has given an assessment on Celtic defender Carl Starfelt’s ‘sloppy’ performance against Kilmarnock.
The two sides played at Hampden Park in the semi-final of the Scottish League Cup, and it would be the Hoops who came out victorious.
However, in the first half, the Celtic man misplaced a few passes, one of which was particularly dangerous, with Starfelt giving the ball away to Killie forward Kyle Lafferty, who fortunately put the ball far off target.
Starfelt has played 14 times for Ange Postecoglou’s side in all competitions and has two goals and an assist to his name in the current campaign.
But writing for the Daily Record, Berry was far from impressed by his start to the game as he criticised the Swede’s display.
He stated: “Carl Starfelt hasn’t looked on it with a few sloppy passes early on. He gifts it to Kyle Lafferty who tries an audacious effort but it’s well off target.”

It wasn’t the finest display from Starfelt, but all will likely be forgotten as Celtic progress through to the final of the Scottish League Cup.
When called upon in the Scottish Premiership, he’s been a very reliable option for Postecoglou. Of all the Celtic players in the squad, Starfelt has the second-highest average league rating on Sofascore with 7.34, only behind Jota.
With a number of centre-backs at their disposal, the performance could give the Celtic boss something to think about, but we think he should look at the bigger picture as Starfelt has proven to be very reliable.
But with new boy Yuki Kobayashi arriving recently, he may be eager to fight for a place in the Hoops’ starting XI, so Starfelt will need to start cutting out the sloppy errors from his game if he wants to avoid the risk of being dropped.
