Transfer expert Dean Jones believes Wolves could soon look to sell Ruben Neves amid recent speculation.

Wolves have been heavily active already this month having handed Julen Lopetegui two new signings, while Pablo Sarabia is now set to join the club if he passes his medical – but they might not be done there in the transfer market.

Despite bringing in several new players this month, some may say Wolves will have finished the window a lot weaker if they end up losing captain Neves, who’s been linked with a move away to the likes of Liverpool and Newcastle United.

Prior to Wolves’ recent uptick in form, many may have thought Neves’ departure would be unfathomable and could send the Midlands side packing for the Championship, but if Lopetegui’s current crop of players hit the ground running with the new recruits, Fosun may be willing to sell Neves and hand the Spanish boss more money to improve his squad by backing his judgement.

Jones has claimed on the Chasing Green Arrows YouTube channel that Neves could soon be sold given the interest in him and his contractual situation.

Would you like Wolves to sell Neves?

No!

He said: “A big club like Liverpool coming in, it’s obviously intriguing. And Wolves might just want to cash in at this point. There might, might, might be a small temptation to say, ‘okay, let’s see what we can get for this player and then we’ll invest that money into another player who can give us as much joy as Ruben Neves has given to us in the last few years’.”

TIF Thoughts on Neves’ future…

Neves has certainly turned out to be a hugely significant signing for Wolves, as he helped them get out of the Championship before guiding them to European football under Nuno Espirito Santo.

However, everything has to come to an end, and if Wolves can maximise their profit on Neves this month, it would be almost bizarre to not sanction a sale, especially given that Mario Lemina has arrived and Joao Gomes is tipped to follow him – though it remains to be seen if rumours linking Goncalo Guedes with a potential move could alter their plans over his compatriot.

Which former Man United man almost joined Wolves?

It all depends on how keen potential suitors are on landing Neves, as he was said to have a price tag on his head of around £70m last summer, and after scoring four goals in a struggling Wolves side, his club’s asking price may not have dropped too much.
