Wolverhampton Wanderers looks set to move on from their pursuit of Atletico Madrid defender Felipe, according to journalist Steve Madeley.

The Brazilian international’s deal at the Metropolitano Stadium is set to expire at the end of the season and the Premier League side have been name-checked as a potential suitor.

Recent reports (Fabrizio Romano) have suggested that the Old Gold are in ongoing negotiations regarding a move for the 33-year-old, but it sounds like they could now be ready to walk away, contrary to that news .

Taking to Twitter, Madeley revealed that while the Wanderers are admirers of Felipe, there are other candidates the hierarchy are looking at whose deals could progress more quickly:

“Understand, by the way, that while Wolves still retain some interest in Felipe of Atletico Madrid, things haven’t moved on in a while and there are other targets in his position of centre back, including Craig Dawson.”

TIF thoughts on the Felipe saga…

Felipe is certainly much older than Wolves’ current options at the back, though he would be able to add some much-needed experience.

The Atletico star has only made two La Liga starts this season but is averaging 3.5 clearances and three aerial wins per game, highlighting the impact he can have when given a chance (WhoScored).

The Midlands outfit need to find a way out of the relegation zone, and the potential arrival of Felipe would surely only increase their chances of avoiding the drop come the end of the campaign.
