Wolverhampton Wanderers are still ‘hopeful’ about signing West Ham United defender Craig Dawson in January, according to a Sky Sports source.

Wolves came very close to signing Dawson on deadline day of the summer transfer window, with the deal getting to the stage of the two clubs agreeing a £4m fee, but West Ham were unable to sign a replacement, and so decided to keep hold of the centre-back.

Sky Sports reporter Dharmesh Sheth has recently detailed that the 32-year-old wants to move to the Midlands as that is where his family live, and with less than six months left on his contract, he may soon get his wish.

Now, according to a report from the Sky Sports Transfer Centre, Wolves still want to complete the deal before the end of January, with the player himself still said to be keen on the move.

One unnamed Sky source added that the Old Gold are ‘hopeful’ of being able to get the transfer done, but as of yet there are no signs that it is any closer to completion.

TIF thoughts on Dawson to Wolves…

The Englishman has really managed to prove himself at West Ham, despite the move to the London Stadium coming in the latter stages of his career, notably being named in the Europa League team of the season for the 2021/22 campaign.

Head of talkSPORT Lee Clayton described the powerhouse as a ‘warrior at both ends’, which is signified by him scoring nine goals in a West Ham shirt, while he is also in the 94th percentile for blocks per 90 over the past year, averaging 1.72.

Wolves’ backline looked solid enough in their last match, keeping a clean sheet in the 1-0 win against the Hammers at the weekend, but some added experience is never a bad thing, and Dawson would be a fantastic addition.
