Tottenham Hotspur have ‘had contacts with intermediaries’ about signing Pedro Porro, according to transfer guru Fabrizio Romano.

Journalist Rudy Galetti recently told GIVEMESPORT that Tottenham had reached a ‘verbal agreement’ with Porro regarding a move to Hotspur Way, but the deal still appears to be some way off completion.

The Mirror claim that Spurs are now only willing to pay £27m for the 23-year-old, conflicting the reports that a £35m deal was in the works earlier this month, and it’s fast becoming one of the sagas of the January window.

Romano has now provided his own update on the situation, potentially giving a little more clarity to Tottenham supporters.

In an interview with GIVEMESPORT, the Italian claimed that there have indeed been talks between the Lilywhites and Sporting regarding the right wing-back, but completing a deal will be tough:

“They had contacts with intermediaries, they had contacts with Sporting, they want 45 million, the payment of the Porro release clause, so not an easy one too.”

TIF thoughts on Porro to Tottenham…

It seems as though Spurs are now in a stand-off with Sporting regarding the 23-year-old, as Sporting will not budge on their asking price of around £40m, and Daniel Levy is unwilling to go that high, so it might be time to start thinking about other players.

The longer this situation drags on without any real progress, the more time Antonio Conte is left without an option he likes on the right of defence, with it previously being claimed by pundit Noel Whelan that he ‘really isn’t happy’ with the players at his disposal at the moment.

Even though Porro has been lauded as a ‘special talent’ by journalist Zach Lowy, there are other players who might be available to Tottenham that are just as good, if not better.

One of these is Denzel Dumfries, who was linked earlier this season and has proven himself at a higher level by making 50 appearances for Inter Milan in the Serie A, while he also performed well at the 2022 World Cup, weighing in with a goal and two assists in the round of 16 match against the USA.
