Jamie Redknapp was in no mood to mince his words after Tottenham Hotspur’s derby defeat as he ripped into Bryan Gil.

Spurs were humbled on their home turf last night losing 2-0 in the north London derby, which has seen Tottenham fall five points off the top four with Antonio Conte still to be backed in the transfer window this month.

It’s not as if Conte hasn’t been given funds to improve his side since joining Tottenham just over a year ago, as Daniel Levy has handed him 10 signings, with several of them starting in yesterday’s defeat – although the options coming off the bench aren’t great.

This is probably why Conte believes he needs more transfer windows to get the squad up to the standard required to be challenging with the country’s elite, as he will want further depth which can allow him to make substitutions that will change games – something Gil failed to do last night.

This led to Redknapp claiming Gil wasn’t the answer for Conte after he was handed a brief cameo appearance against Arsenal.

Do Spurs need to replace Bryan Gil?

Yes!

Yes!

No!

No!

He said: “Bryan Gil is not the answer. I think he’s a good player, but he’s not when you’re talking top-level.”

TIF Thoughts on Gil…

It has been an incredibly difficult time for Gil since he was signed in the summer of 2020, as without being handed a single league start despite costing Spurs £21m, he was shipped out on loan last January as he looked to get more game time back in La Liga.

This season hasn’t been much different, however, with Conte handing him just two league starts, although he did star in one of those against Crystal Palace, which saw him register his first assist in a Spurs’ 4-0 victory.

Starting with the club's £60m summer signing, which of these players could Richarlison be facing?

Gil has only been able to complete two successful dribbles in the Premier League this season (FBref), so even when he is being handed chances to impress off the bench, he’s failing to make an impact, so Redknapp isn’t wrong in claiming the Spaniard simply isn’t the answer Conte is looking for.

Spot on Harry, why can’t Levy and Conte see it, he’s too lightweight and will never be good enough for the premiership.

    LEVY & ENIC OUT !!
