Tottenham will have ‘good opportunity’ to sign Josko Gvardiol

Tottenham Hotspur will have a ‘good opportunity’ to sign RB Leipzig defender Josko Gvardiol in the summer, according to transfer expert Dean Jones.

Tottenham have previously been told by journalist Ryan Taylor that Gvardiol is out of their price range, after a £71m proposal from Chelsea was turned down, with Eurosport reporting that he has a £112m release clause in his contract that becomes active in 2024.

Plenty of Premier League teams are interested in the Croatian, with Foot Mercato reporting that Manchester United and Manchester City are potential suitors, and the latter club have already tabled a bid of £85m bid plus add-ons.

As such, it may be a difficult transfer to complete, but Spurs have now been told that they are in a good position.

Speaking about the potential deal to GIVEMESPORT, Jones said:

“Given the fact that Tottenham will believe that they can somehow end this season on a high, I think they’ve got to consider that they would have a good opportunity in the summer, or at least as good an opportunity as Chelsea do right now.”

TIF thoughts on Gvardiol to Tottenham…

It is clear that Tottenham need a new centre-back, given that they have conceded more than the likes of West Ham United and Everton, teams that are both currently embroiled in relegation battles, and the youngster would fit the bill perfectly.

Hailed as a ‘warrior’ by sections of the media, the 20-year-old still has time on his side to develop further, but his national team manager, Zlatko Dalic, has already claimed that he is ‘the best centre-back in the world’.

While that description may be a little premature, there is no doubt that Gvardiol has emerged as a top player with RB Leipzig, and one aspect of his game that is important is that he is very comfortable on the ball, attempting an average of 85.24 passes per 90 in the past year, in the 99th percentile compared to other centre-backs.

Antonio Conte is in dire need of an upgrade in defence, and so Spurs should stump up the money required for the RB Leipzig man, even though it is likely they will have to break their record transfer fee.
