Tottenham Hotspur: Lilywhites join race to sign Ivan Fresneda

Tottenham Hotspur have reportedly joined the race to land a transfer deal for Real Valladolid full-back Ivan Fresneda. 

The 18-year-old has found himself being linked with numerous clubs in recent weeks such as Newcastle United, Borussia Dortmund and Arsenal among others.

As things stand, the youngster has found himself on the radar of another top-flight club.

According to a recent report from Italian media outlet Tuttosport (via Sport Witness), Tottenham have joined Juventus in having an interest in signing Fresneda as a potential alternative to Pedro Porro, who the Lilywhites have been heavily linked with this month.

Despite still being fairly young, Fresneda has made 13 senior appearances for Valladolid, with 11 of those coming in this current season.

Across his nine La Liga appearances this term, the Spaniard has averaged more tackles per game (3.2) than any of his teammates.

In addition to that, Fresneda has the joint-third highest average of key passes per game (1.1) at the club, proving how effective he can be on the ball in attacking situations as well as out of possession in a defensive sense.

His overall league performances have earned the defender a season rating of 6.73/10 from WhoScored, making him the fourth-highest rated outfield player at Valladolid.

This shows why he has caught the attention of so many clubs and why he has been described as a “highly-rated” player by Fabrizio Romano.

Taking all of this into account, it’s understandable that Spurs have apparently turned their attention to Fresneda and why they would look to make a move for him if they don’t end up signing Porro this month.

Moving forward, if a move for the Sporting CP right-back fails to materialise this month, the north London club should definitely look to seal a deal for the Valladolid starlet, although given the number of other clubs eyeing him, this could also prove to be a challenge for Spurs.
