Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur manager Antonio Conte is not currently negotiating with the north London club over a new contract.
Last month, it was reported by The Athletic that the Italian was set to enter talks with Spurs over a potential new long-term deal.
However, some fresh behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding the matter that could have some Lilywhites supporters worried.
In a recent column (via CaughtOffside), Romano had this to say on the situation surrounding Conte.
He said: “Antonio Conte has not made any decision yet. There’s not even a negotiation with Tottenham as things stand.
“Conte will decide close to the end of the season, he has not communicated anything to Tottenham. It will take time and depend on the project. Conte leaving is a possibility for sure, but I can’t say it’s 100% decided now.”
The 53-year-old joined the north London club on an 18-month deal back in November 2021 and has since gone on to take charge of 65 games with Spurs across all competitions, winning 36 of them with 10 draws and 19 defeats.
Having secured a top-four finish last season, Conte has got his side in the race to do it again this term, as well as getting them into the last-16 round of the Champions League, it’s safe to presume that everyone at the club would want to see him sign a new long-term contract.
Would you like to see Conte sign a new deal at Spurs?
However, with Romano highlighting the current situation and claiming that the Italian could well end up leaving Spurs at the end of the season, this could have a lot of supporters at the club worried.
Moving forward, we feel that the Spurs hierarchy should do all they can between now and the end of the campaign to convince Conte to pledge his future to the club and continue his journey with them if they feel he’s the one that can be successful in terms of consistently battling for trophies.
