Tottenham Hotspur reportedly have their eyes on signing Montpellier striker Elye Wahi.

The 20-year-old joined the French club’s U19 side back in 2018 from Montfermeil’s U19 squad and has since gone on to score 20 goals in 76 senior appearances for his current team.

Despite only just starting to make a name for himself in Europe, the youngster has already caught the attention of two top Premier League clubs.

According to a recent report from Foot Mercato, Spurs have joined their north London rivals, Arsenal, in having an interest in signing Wahi.

The report also says that it would only take a significant last-minute offer to sign the striker before the January transfer window closes.

This season has seen the centre-forward find the net seven times in 18 Ligue 1 appearances, making him the joint-top scorer at the club.

To further highlight how deadly he is in front of goal, Wahi has made more shots at goal (32) and shots on target (17) than any other Montpellier player.

In addition to that, the Frenchman has the joint-third highest number of successful dribbles at his current club (11) showcasing how much of a tricky customer he is to play against for opposition defenders as well as being a consistent nuisance for opposing goalkeepers.

This makes it easy to see why Montpellier secured a new deal for the striker back in March, which is a move that journalist Robin Bairner praised as he considers Wahi to be an “exciting” player for the club.

Taking all of this into account, we feel that securing a deal for the young attacker could be a smart long-term investment for Spurs to make given the clear talent he has and the fact that it would see them beat their close rivals Arsenal to his signature.

Moving forward, depending on how much of a significant if would take for Montpellier to sell him, Spurs should definitely test waters to see if they can seal a move for Wahi before the end of the month.
