Tottenham Hotspur could open talks Denzel Dumfries’ agent, who is in London at the moment, according to a new report.

Tottenham have been chasing a new right wing-back for much of the January transfer window, with Fabrizio Romano claiming Pedro Porro is ‘top of the list’, however he also added that it would be a ‘difficult’ deal to complete.

Spurs cooled their interest in Porro as they were unwilling to pay the £40m release clause that Sporting CP were demanding, and while Romano has recently detailed that there has been ‘contacts’ with Sporting, the deal appears to be no closer to a conclusion.

As such, Tottenham may start looking elsewhere for possible alternatives to the Spaniard, and Dumfries has been linked with a switch to north London in the past.

As per a report from FC Inter News, the Dutchman’s agent, Rafaela Pimenta, is in London, and Spurs could use this opportunity to deepen discussions about signing him, in the case of negotiations for Porro failing.

It is stated that Inter value the 26-year-old at around £44m, however they would be willing to come down to £35m, should a proposal be tabled for the player who Chelsea are also said to have wanted for some time.

TIF thoughts on Dumfries to Tottenham…

The Rotterdam-born ‘monster‘ has a breadth of experience at the top level, making a total of 18 appearances in the Champions League, while he has also appeared for the Netherlands on 42 occasions, starting all five of his side’s matches in the recent World Cup.

While the former PSV man’s heading acumen makes him very useful in a defensive sense, averaging 1.87 aerials won per 90 in the past year, he possesses a real attacking threat, as indicated by him sitting in the 99th percentile for non-penalty xG amongst full-backs, always eager to advance his team up the field into promising positions.

Last season, Dumfries weighed in with ten goal contributions in Serie A, highlighting that he would be a real improvement on regular starter Emerson Royal, who has only amassed one goal and two assists in 62 appearances for Tottenham.
