Tottenham Hotspur once again find themselves in a race to secure Champions League football by the end of the season.
With 18 games played, Spurs have won 10 of them, drawing three and losing five along the way, currently putting them in fifth place with 33 points on the board.
One player that has been a prominent figure in Antonio Conte’s side this season is Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg.
Having appeared in 17 of the Lilywhites’ 18 league games, only Harry Kane and Hugo Lloris have played more minutes this season than Hojbjerg.
The midfielder has shown in this campaign just how important he is for the team and why Conte relies on him so much.
Specifically, the 27-year-old has made more progressive passes (95), interceptions (23) and recoveries (123) than any other player at the club.
While it seems unlikely that the Danish international will be going anywhere anytime soon, one midfielder that has been recently linked with a move to Spurs that we feel would be an ideal partner for Hojbjerg is Bristol City’s Alex Scott.
Similarly to the Spurs maestro, Scott has shown how much of a capable midfield figure he is this season.
For example, Scott also has made more recoveries (136) than any other player at the Championship club, as well as having one of the highest totals of progressive passes (56) and interceptions (26).
Is Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg Tottenham's best midfielder?
Yes
No
Described as having “tremendous” attributes in the middle of the park by his former coach Tony Vance, Scott could well be a dream partner for Hojbjerg at Spurs given his efficiency and talent in that area.
Bearing in mind how the likes of Rodrigo Bentancur, Yves Bissouma and Oliver Skipp have found themselves in and out of the team this season for numerous reasons, having a figure like the 19-year-old in the squad that has shown this season how much of a consistent player he can be, could be a great long-term answer for Spurs and Conte.
