Tottenham Hotspur have Wolverhampton Wanderers midfielder Ruben Neves on their shortlist for a potential January transfer, according to a new report.

Interest in Neves appears to be growing, with it being reported that Liverpool have ‘concrete’ interest in signing the midfielder, while it is added that Wolves could be willing to listen to offers, given that his contract expires in 2024.

The 25-year-old was valued at £100m last April, however the Football Insider report indicates that his value is coming down, perhaps making the transfer more possible for Spurs, who join plenty of other teams in the race for his signature.

According to 90min, the Portugal international is on the shortlists of Liverpool, Newcastle United and Tottenham, with the interest of those three teams appearing to be the most advanced.

However, Arsenal, Manchester United and Barcelona are also named as long-term admirers of the former Porto man, who Wolves are said to be determined to keep hold of, despite the increased demand for his services.

TIF thoughts on Neves to Tottenham…

In truth, central midfield is not the big problem position for Antonio Conte’s side, with Rodrigo Bentancur and Pierre-Emile Hojbjerg rated as two of the three best-performing players in the squad, but Neves could still be a worthwhile addition.

Lauded as ‘fantastic’ by current teammate Jose Sa, the maestro is adept in both his attacking and defensive responsibilities, displaying the latter with an average of 2.34 clearances per 90 in the past year, in the 97th percentile compared to his positional peers.

With four goals to his name this term, Neves has already matched his tally for last season, so he is showing clear signs of development, and is now ready to take the next step at a club currently competing in the Champions League.
