Trusted journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that the agents of Tottenham Hotspur target Piero Hincapie have a ‘good relationship’ with the club but a January transfer won’t be easy.

The young defender impressed during the World Cup with Ecuador and during the tournament, his name came up in a report by The Express linking him with a possible move to Spurs.

And while the Premier League club may well be keen on trying to sign this player in the January transfer market, it seems as though his side Bayer Leverkusen don’t want to sell just yet.

Indeed, while, talking on the Last Word On Spurs podcast, Romano revealed that Tottenham have ‘a very good relationship’ with the player’s agents, a deal might be difficult to complete at this stage.

He said (7:42): “Hincapie is appreciated, it’s true. Bayer Leverkusen want to keep all their players until the end of the season and they’ll sell in the summer.

“This is why it’s not going to be easy to negotiate. So it has to be an important proposal. I’m told Tottenham have a very good relationship also with the agents of the player, the people representing the player. So let’s see if they will decide to act.

“At the moment also, in this case, it’s not a negotiation from club to club, there is not an official bid. So we have to wait and see if Spurs will really act but we can confirm that he’s a player appreciated by Tottenham, for sure.”

TIF Thoughts on Piero Hincapie and Spurs…

While many may not have heard of Hincapie before the World Cup, those watching Ecuador playing in Qatar would have likely remembered his name.

For instance, Journalist Ryan Taylor claimed it could be a ‘breakout tournament’ for the 20-year-old after he impressed on his debut at the tournament, keeping a clean sheet and finishing the match with a 97.2% pass accuracy.

Back in Germany with Bayer Leverkusen, Hincapie has been a reliable option in the team, playing as either a left-back or a centre-back in both the Bundesliga and the Champions League games.

And so, despite his young age, he would arrive with plenty of decent experience. However, Spurs might have to wait until the summer to complete a deal.
