Trusted journalist Fabrizio Romano has revealed that Tottenham Hotspur have not made an offer for Franck Kessie despite reports.

With the winter transfer market now open, a number of Premier League clubs may be looking to get their business done early to help immediately strengthen their squads.

According to Spanish outlet Sport, Spurs are keen on signing the Barcelona midfielder this January and have even made a bid of €15m (£13m) for the player already.

However, it seems as though this report might not be entirely accurate, depending on who you believe. Indeed, transfer guru Romano has dined such reports, but did suggest that a move could be on the cards this summer for the possible Tottenham target.

Speaking on the Last Word On Spurs podcast, he said: “I also saw on Kessie, these rumours of an official bid from Tottenham. From what I’m told, Barcelona have not received any official bid yet for Kessie and they want to keep the player until the end of the season.

“They have problems with Financial Fair Play, so they want to keep the same squad until the end of the season.

“And then I think for the summer, we have to keep an eye on Kessie, because the Premier League could be an option. But at the moment, there are no negotiations yet.”

TIF Thoughts on Franck Kessie and Spurs…

The 26-year-old only moved to Barcelona last summer, signing on a free after leaving AC Milan when his deal expired. However, Kessie is yet to make a huge impact in Spain.

For instance, he started just twice in La Liga all season and only three times in the Champions League too. This suggests manager Xavi might not quite fancy him in his midfield.

Still, Romano seems adamant that he won’t be sold this winter but if Kessie can’t turn things around in Barcelona over the remainder of the season, perhaps Spurs will swoop in over the summer.
