Journalist and presenter Alison Bender has tipped Real Madrid to make a move for Tottenham Hotspur star Harry Kane.
According to reports in Spain, Real Madrid want to sign the Premier League forward and could cost the La Liga giants around €100m (£88.3m).
Kane’s deal with Spurs doesn’t run out until the summer of 2024, and with 265 goals in all competitions for Tottenham, there’s no doubt he would be a huge loss for Antonio Conte’s side.
Speaking on the BBC’s Transfer Gossip Daily podcast, Bender claimed she ‘can really see this happening’. However, she doubts that a deal could happen between the two sides in January.
She stated: “Florentino Perez just loves a big, exciting signing for the fans. I really can see this happening, but I also feel a bit like, why on earth wouldn’t someone pay £100m for Harry Kane? If Jack Grealish is worth that much…
“Throw all the money in the world at him, he’s the best striker in the world right now. And I know that money isn’t endless, but do everything in your power to get him in your ranks, because Carlo Ancelotti needs options – they don’t have very much right now. This kind of seems perfect.
“The only thing that I have reservations [about] – the January window’s a bit of a weird one, isn’t it? And you just wonder whether Conte and Levy might say to him, ‘stay just this little bit longer’.
“I wouldn’t be surprised if he actually stays until the summer.”
We don’t believe that Kane will leave Spurs in the January transfer window. Spurs are still in two cup competitions and we don’t feel Kane would be one to shy away from the battle they have to finish in the top four this term – particularly with the striker edging ever closer to becoming the club’s top goalscorer of all time.
However, time is running out for the 29-year-old to make a big move before he passes his prime years, and perhaps faces the likely prospect of seeing out his career at Tottenham if they can hold onto him for a few more years.
But this could come at the price of him going without winning a major trophy in his career, and for a striker of the Golden Boot-winning Kane’s stature, it is hardly a given he will stay loyal to his club before he retires, especially with the likes of Real Madrid sniffing around.
