Southampton find themselves in a battle to avoid being relegated from the Premier League by the end of the season.
With 20 games played, the Saints have picked up more defeats (13) than any other side in the division, winning only four times and drawing three matches, leaving them with just 15 points on the board in 20th place.
One player that has been a shining light for the south coast club, however, is James Ward-Prowse, who has scored more league goals (5) than any other player in Nathan Jones’ side and provided two assists as well.
Should Jones look to the transfer market to try and strengthen his side, one player that the St Mary’s outfit have been linked with that we feel would do this and give Jones the chance to form a dynamic duo alongside Ward-Prowse is Lucas Moura.
During his time at Tottenham Hotspur, the Brazilian has scored 38 goals and delivered 27 assists in 213 appearances across all competitions, highlighting his attacking talent.
This is similar to Ward-Prowse’s ability to score and provide goals for his side, as he has racked up 51 goals and 50 assists in 389 senior appearances for Southampton.
Would you take Lucas Moura at Southampton?
Yes
No
Having been praised for his “superb” ability to play a final ball by Spurs journalist Alasdair Gold in the past, this showcases what he’d be able to offer the Saints, who only have three clubs in the league that have made fewer live-ball passes that have led to a goal this season (18).
With Ward-Prowse topping the list for the number of progressive passes (60), passes into the final third of the pitch (90) and key passes (42) at Southampton, having a dynamic player like Moura alongside him would surely make Jones’ side a deadlier goal threat.
Moving forward, if the club are able to avoid relegation, securing a free transfer for the Spurs figure when his contract expires in the summer is definitely something that the Saints look to do.
