Southampton are not looking to allow Che Adams to leave the club this month, according to talkSPORT journalist Alex Crook.

The striker has recently been linked with a move away from the south coast club before tomorrow’s January transfer deadline, with fellow Premier League club, Everton, reportedly interested.

However, some behind-the-scenes details have emerged regarding Southampton’s stance on the Scotsman and his position at the club.

In a recent Twitter post, Crook had this to say on the matter.

He said: “Told there is no truth in claims Che Adams will be allowed to leave #SaintsFC this month. Not even under consideration.”

How many times did Wesley Hoedt feature in an underwhelming Saints stay?

Southampton signed the 26-year-old back in the 2019 summer transfer window from Birmingham City in a deal worth a reported fee of around £15m.

Since then, the centre-forward has gone on to make 134 appearances for the Saints across all competitions, scoring 29 goals and delivering 14 assists along the way.

Having started 20 of the 24 games he’s appeared in this season across the Premier League, FA Cup and Carabao Cup, this highlights just how important he is for Nathan Jones side and why the club are not looking to see him leave this month.

Across his 19 league appearances, Adams has scored four goals and supplied two assists, leaving only James Ward-Prowse (7) with more goal contributions for the club.

His overall performances have earned the striker a season rating of 6.69/10 from WhoScored, making him the joint-third-highest-rated player at Southampton.

With the highest average of shots per game (1.8) in Jones’ squad, it’s clear that Adams is a pivotal attacking figure for the team, who they will surely rely upon to help them avoid relegation by the end of the season.

Now that Crook has put to bed any concerns there may have been about the striker’s immediate future at St Mary’s, this should definitely please Jones and the Southampton fans, who will now be hoping that the team can get as many points on the board as possible over the next few months.
