Southampton are reportedly eyeing up a potential move for Luton Town right-back James Bree.

The Saints have been dealt a big blow injury-wise as Tino Livramento was spotted using crutches and wearing a knee brace at Staplewood on Thursday morning.

He had previously been in training with Nathan Jones and the first team, but now looks to have suffered a setback in his recovery.

Taking to Twitter on Thursday afternoon, Southampton reporter for Hampshire Live Mark Wyatt has now revealed that the club are ‘looking at’ right-back Bree, who Jones has described as having ‘Premier League quality’:

“Also understand the club are looking at Luton Town’s James Bree this month too. Has been described by Nathan Jones as having ‘Premier League quality’ which could be put to the test if a move materialises this month.”

TIF thoughts on Bree to Southampton…

With Livramento now out for the foreseeable future, Jones will be crying out for more cover in the right-back area, with Kyle Walker-Peters their only other senior option in the squad.

Bree is clearly a player Jones rates highly having claimed that he can make the step up to the top flight, and the full-back has played over 100 games for him in the Championship and domestic cup competitions.

Nonetheless, the 25-year-old is someone that Jones knows well, and so should be able to slot into his system comfortably while Livramento is out.

The St. Mary’s outfit need to bring in as many reinforcements as possible in this window, with them currently sitting at the bottom of the Premier League table.
