Newcastle United are planning to secure a transfer deal for Moussa Diaby before the next Premier League season.

The Magpies were linked with a move for the Bayer Leverkusen winger during the previous summer transfer window but didn’t end up signing him.

After working his way through the youth ranks at Paris Saint-Germain, the winger joined his current club back in the 2019 summer transfer window.

Since then, the 23-year-old has made 146 appearances for the German club across all competitions, scoring 43 goals and delivering 41 assists.

Having missed out on sealing the winger’s signature last summer, the Tyneside club have not given up their hopes of bringing him to St. James’ Park.

According to a recent report from German media outlet Bild, Newcastle are looking to sign Diaby during the summer transfer window ahead of their next Premier League campaign.

How well do you remember Newcastle's January transfer window? An easy one to start with: where did Newcastle sign Bruno Guimaraes from?

In addition to scoring six goals and supplying three assists in 15 Bundesliga appearances this season, prior to their the Frenchman has shown in other areas of his game how much of an exciting signing he would have been for the Toon.

For example, Diaby has had more shots on target (18), made more key passes (28) and racked up more shot-creating actions (47) than any other player at Leverkusen.

This backs up why Nils Petersen previously described the winger as an “incredibly dangerous” player and why Newcastle are reportedly keen on signing him once again.

His overall performances in the German league this season have earned the attacker a strong rating of 7.13/10 from WhoScored, making him the highest-rated player at Leverkusen.

Taking all of this into account it’s clear why the Magpies have not given up on signing Diaby and why he is still in their plans for the next summer transfer window.

Moving forward, if the Toon end up finishing in the top four this season, this would surely make a move to St. James’ Park a very tempting proposition for the winger and potentially increase their chances of finally landing a deal for him in the summer.
