Newcastle United are reportedly eyeing a transfer move for Stade Rennais midfielder and World Cup semi-finalist Lovro Majer.
Since then, the 24-year-old has made 57 appearances for the French side across all competitions, finding the net on eight occasions and delivering 12 assists, taking his club total to 45 goals throughout his career.
Having recently been a part of the Croatia squad that came third in the recent World Cup, Majer could well be on the move again, this time to the Premier League.
According to a recent report from Media Foot, Newcastle are eyeing a potential move for Majer, who they apparently see as the potential subject of another Bruno Guimaraes ‘stunt’, with the Magpies signing the Brazilian superstar from Ligue 1 last winter.
The report even states ‘paired with the technical and elegant Lovro Majer, the Brazilian could be even stronger. And with the financial means of Saudi buyers, there is no doubt that Rennes can be convinced.’
This season has seen the midfielder make 21 appearances for Rennes across all competitions, scoring two goals and providing three assists.
Despite only starting seven of the 14 Ligue 1 games he’s appeared in during this campaign, Majer has still shown how much of a tricky midfielder he is.
Would you take Lovro Majer at Newcastle?
Having been chosen to start Croatia’s third-place play-off game against Morocco in the World Cup, the midfielder had 44 touches of the ball in total and was able to make three key passes, the joint-highest out of Croatia player that started the game.
Previously praised by football talent scout, Jacek Kulig, for his “phenomenal” form in the past, Majer would certainly be a useful player for Eddie Howe given his ability to be an attacking influence from the middle of the park.
With all of that in mind, it’d be understandable if Newcastle were to launch a move for the Rennes figure either this month or in the next summer transfer window.
