Manchester United have reportedly held talks with Burnley over a potential loan move for Wout Weghorst.

Burnley signed the Dutchman back in the previous January transfer window from Wolfsburg in a deal worth £12m, which was described as being an “outstanding” move by journalist Josh Bunting.

After scoring two goals and providing three assists in 20 Premier League appearances last season, the 30-year-old found himself joining Besiktas on a season-long loan during the previous summer window.

Despite only being halfway through his loan spell in Turkey, Weghorst, who has 172 club goals to his name, could be set to make an early return to England.

According to a recent report from The Athletic, United have made an enquiry to Burnley to see if they would be willing to sanction a move to Old Trafford for the striker.

In this quiz, we will take a look at who topped the club's scoring charts and when. First, who was United's top scorer this season?

The report also adds that Besiktas have an option to buy Weghorst for €10m (£8m) at the end of the season, meaning that any potential new move for him would need their approval to break the current agreement.

During his time with Besiktas, the centre-forward, who has been described as ‘crazy’, has found the net nine times and supplied four assists in 18 appearances.

His overall performances in the Turkish league have earned Weghorst an impressive season rating of 7.34/10 from WhoScored, making him the third-highest rated player in the division.

This all makes it easy to see why the Red Devils are keen to add him to their squad this month, especially since they got rid of Cristiano Ronaldo back in November.

While it would seem likely that Besiktas would prefer to keep hold of the striker and potentially sign him on a permanent basis once his current loan deal ends, the prospect of returning to the Premier League and playing for a club like United would surely be a tempting offer for the player.

Moving forward, if the Manchester club are able to secure a loan deal for Weghorst this month, this would give Erik ten Hag a proven goalscorer that certainly has the ability to fire United into the top four by the end of the season.
