Manchester United have signed some big-name players over recent years such as Casemiro, Bruno Fernandes and Cristiano Ronaldo among others.

Another player that has made a move to Old Trafford in recent memory that came with a hefty pedigree of playing at the top level and winning trophies is Raphael Varane.

The Frenchman arrived at Old Trafford back in August 2021 having won a plethora of trophies at his previous club, Real Madrid, including four Champions Leagues and three La Liga titles.

During his time with the Red Devils, prior to their Carabao Cup match against Charlton Athletic, the 29-year-old has made 43 appearances across all competitions, with 12 of those coming in the current Premier League campaign.

With the centre-back set to turn 30 in April, Erik ten Hag could look to the transfer market to bring in some fresh faces that could be long-term replacements for the likes of Varane.

In this quiz, we will take a look at who topped the club's scoring charts and when. First, who was United's top scorer this season?

One player that the Manchester club have been linked with that could be seen as a potential next version of the former Real star is Axel Disasi.

This season has seen the 24-year-old play in all 17 of Monaco’s Ligue 1 games, wearing the captain’s armband on five occasions.

Described as a “complete & dominant” player by talent scout Jacek Kulig, who also likened him to Virgil van Dijk, Disasi has found himself on a similar career path as Varane.

Has Raphael Varane been a good signing for United?

Yes

Yes

No

No

Specifically, in terms of having both started their careers in France before catching the attention of two of Europe’s biggest clubs, as the current United defender did back in 2011 when he joined Real.

The Monaco figure has also shown in his defensive work on the pitch this season how similar he is to Varane.

For example, Disasi boasts the highest average of clearances per game (3.1) out of anyone currently at the French club, as well as the second-highest average of blocks per game (0.8).

With Varane, he also has the highest average of clearances per game (4.1) at United and the third-highest for blocks per game (0.7).

Taking all of this into account, securing a transfer deal for the 24-year-old and seeing him learn from his fellow countryman at Old Trafford could be a very lucrative move for the Manchester club to make.
